TimeLine Theatre Company’s new Uptown home represents a transformative investment in both Chicago’s cultural and educational landscape. Located at 5035 N. Broadway, the $46 million adaptive reuse project converts a historic early-20th-century warehouse into a 30,000-square-foot, five-story performing arts and education center. While the development delivers a state-of-the-art 250-seat theater and expanded production capacity, its most significant impact is the dramatic growth of TimeLine’s nationally recognized educational programming.
Central to this impact is the Living History Education Program, a unique partnership with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) that brings history to life through immersive, curriculum-based performances, classroom residencies, and post-show discussions. This program engages thousands of students annually, helping them draw meaningful connections between historical events and present-day social and civic issues while strengthening critical thinking and engagement.
The new facility includes dedicated classrooms, rehearsal studios, and flexible community spaces designed to support year-round student learning and educator collaboration. By significantly expanding its physical footprint, TimeLine can deepen its reach into underserved communities and provide greater access to high-quality arts education.
By integrating performance, education, and civic dialogue, TimeLine’s Uptown project not only revitalizes a historic corridor but also establishes a dynamic hub for learning, storytelling, and community connection for generations to come.
